US legal industry Web site FindLaw has obtained and made available in PDF format the fifteen-page court documents relating to the highly publicized legal action between Eminem and Apple. Read the full story for details.
The document: "Eight Mile Style, LLC, and Martin Affiliated, LLC, Plaintiffs, vs. Apple Computer, Inc, TBWA/Chiat/Day, MTV Networks, Inc, and Viacom International, Inc, Defendants: Complaint and Demand for Trial by Jury", is available in PDF format as a direct download
from the site.
As previously reported, this action centres on Apple's use of an Eminem track Lose Yourself in a US advertising campaign without permission from the artist.
The ad featuring the track starred a ten-year old singing the song, and ran on MTV for three months beginning July 2003. The ad was also available on Apple's Web site.
Despite Apple CEO Steve Jobs' personal intervention, the artist declined permission to use the track.
Further details are also available in the legal brief. Eminem is expected to release a statement on the matter, hopefully today.
